Project overview

We were assigned to fix the copies for the new subscription program of Getir.

The project had multiple flows, including before and after subscription states, payment, cancellation, refund, and free trial screens.

The copies for GetirSelect were requested in both Turkish and English, with a range of different types of content such as push notifications, FAQ texts, microcopies, and more.

For this project, we worked closely with a Product Designer and a Product Manager.

Challenges and constraints

Starting the project briefed to only fix minor issues in the text, me and my fellow UX Writer had to dive deeply into the system behind the subscription program.

Finding open points that were not thought of before, we quickly started asking the right questions to fully understand what the business goals were.

The details of the program were not clear when we entered the project, so we crafted the copies with different alternatives and reviewed them together with our Product Designer and Product Manager to eventually agree on the final copies that are now live in the Getir app.

The main issue

The problem with the entire concept was that GetirSelect was thought and written as a membership program. Getir itself has a membership model, so this confused people who were already members (signed-up users) of Getir.

To fix this problem, we positioned GetirSelect as a subscription model and edited the texts accordingly. This way it was possible to distinguish the GetirSelect program from the overall Getir experience.

Key takeaways

This project taught me the importance of asking questions, even when you're added to the project in the final moments to simply "fix the text".

The words we write have a direct correlation with the designs and the business objectives, so understanding the whole scale of the project is essential to make the necessary adjustments to the text.
